18 U.S.C. § 2257 statement

A short compliance statement explaining why federal record-keeping obligations do not apply to editorial coverage of anime girl characters and AI chat apps.

What § 2257 requires

Section 2257 of Title 18 of the United States Code (18 U.S.C. § 2257), together with 28 C.F.R. Part 75, imposes record-keeping and labelling obligations on producers of certain visual depictions of actual sexually explicit conduct. Producers subject to the statute must keep records verifying that every performer depicted was at least 18 at the time of production, and must display a notice identifying the custodian of records.

Why it does not apply here

anime-girls.io does not produce or host visual depictions of actual sexually explicit conduct. Output on this site consists of written coverage, illustrations of drawn or generated characters, brand graphics (logo, icons, social cards) and citations of reference sources. None of that involves real performers, and none of it meets the statutory definition of matter subject to § 2257 record-keeping. What the site publishes and how is set out on the about page and the methodology page.

Where this site links to Anime Girl AI apps, those apps are independent third parties responsible for their own compliance under U.S. federal law and equivalent frameworks where they operate.

Voluntary adult policy

Independent of § 2257, anime-girls.io restricts access to adult readers with an 18+ self-certification gate, and every character discussed on the site is an adult. Detail on the gate sits on the age verification page. Site use and data handling are covered in the terms of service and the privacy policy.
